How Long Does Probate Take in Iowa?

In many instances, the probating of an estate is completed within one year.  Of course, this timeframe can vary depending on the complexity and size of the estate. For small estate administration, this process could be a matter of months.

Iowa law does require the estate to be resolved within three years after the second publication of the notice to creditors.  Under certain circumstances, a judge could extend this time, but that is certainly not the typical timeline of most estates.
